Background 

Ian grew up in upstate NY and was exposed to the small family dairy/cropping systems. He attended FLCC earning a few degrees in the conservation field, doing deer and fish surveys, telemetry, and course work in Alaska. Ian went on to receive his BS from Colorado State University and a MA from Gonzaga. Ian has a long history of federal service as a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. and working with the USDA Farm Service Agency before coming to ARS. He is an avid hunter and conservationist.

Skills and Expertise

Ian has extensive knowledge in soil and crop sampling and processing. Along with Caven Halsey, Ian helps run the NSAR Unit’s Palouse Conservation Field Research Station, Weather Station, and acts as the Safety Officer.

Role in the CAF-LTAR

To help in all aspects of research pertaining to NSAR Unit’s mission, and to assist in the collaboration of and between USDA, WSU, U of Idaho, other universities, Industry, and Private stakeholder groups.
